Double prosecution after Londoner’s fatal fall

They hired a contractor to fix a leaking roof but failed to check their competence before work began. The contractor failed to plan the work properly and an employee fell through the roof to their death.

The HSE stated that this tragic incident could have been avoided if adequate checks had been carried out on the contractor’s competence.

Howarth Timber were fined £93,750 and ordered to pay full costs of £12,580.
